Well there was a muythbusters episode that busted older fingerprint readers. I am not into this new tech but I think this has tougher encryption compared to the first fingerprint readers. The mythbusters had one guy leave a fingerprint randomly IIRC (its been a while). Then somehow they lifted the print with some special puddy or something you can find online and whip up. They took the lifted print and made a silicon copy of it. Then they used the fake silicon fingerprint and it worked.
It's probably on youtube. Yep here it is in the videos But yeah. It's not EASILY bypassed I don't think (unless there is some special new hack besides making a huge silicon operation).

Amazon.com: Eikon Mini USB Fingerprint Reader for Mac: Biometric Security Devices: Camera & Photo. May 28, 2015 Yes, you can login the Mac with the fingerprint scanner, that is my main purpose; it makes it easier for my wife to use it and I can still configure a good password. Yes, you can use the fingerprint scanner when installing software; you don't have to enter a password anymore.
This review is from: Eikon Mini USB Fingerprint Reader for Mac (DVD-ROM) Just got this product today. I had read earlier this week that there’s a new version of the software and driver for Mountain Lion, so I made sure that I downloaded and installed it (you can find it here: Initial enrollment of the fingerprints was pretty straight forward and it was able to read my fingerprints immediately.
I am only using the Mac authentication functionalities of the reader, so I have not yet tried the app launch and web login features. But I do use Spotlight to launch apps and other password manager to keep my web logins, so I’ll just use this reader to authenticate into my Mac.
While authenticating, one thing I found is that you can’t swipe your finger quickly right after it prompts for it, as it actually takes a second or two to initialize the reader. Once the reader has initialized, so far it has been pretty accurate. Definitely something you should look into if you want to have biometric authentication on your Mac laptop. I’ll provide more updates to this review after I’ve used this for an extended period of time.
